On June 24, 1889, Butch Cassidy hunched over a shot of whiskey in the bar of the Telluride pool hall—and started watching the San Miguel Valley Bank right across the street very, very closely. Pondering how his first robbery might go, the whiskey brought some concentration. Unlikely he gave much thought to how pleasant the bar.

Nor to the notion of having a road named after him a century later. But Butch Cassidy Drive in Telluride is where one particular property sits today that, against all things predictable, harbors in its TV snug that very same historic pool-hall bar.

Today the house at 176 Butch Cassidy Drive is named Robbers Roost, after the remote hideout in Utah used by Cassidy’s notorious Wild Bunch gang.
