I’m delighted that the first of our new teams are on the streets
Earlier this year I made a commitment to Glaswegians that the SNP City Administration would invest millions of pounds in making our streets and communities cleaner.
Our citizens had told us that the look and feel of their neighbourhoods was amongst their top priorities, so as City Treasurer I had to make sure that the city’s budget could respond to that.
These have been really difficult years for local government finances.
The pressures of austerity, rampant inflation and rising demand for council services have meant there’s simply not been enough money.
But a combination of a better-than-expected grant from the Scottish Government and a slight increase in the contributions we asked our citizens to make put us in a good position to invest an extra £7 million in cleansing services.
That additional resource meant........
