Trump claims control of 65 billion barrels will cut pump prices and refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after Iran-war drawdowns. Ricardo Hausmann and much of Venezuela, the piece says, treat the contract as a joke that any post–U.S.-installed government will tear up. Who sues? Who dies for the oil?
Immediate barrels are not a tap: output is ~1.25 million b/d; getting back near 3 million takes years and billions after sanctions wrecked kit and markets. Investors want payoffs after Trump is gone. Venezuelan crude is heavy and acidic; SPR tanks are built for light, sweet oil. File it with the phantom trillions.
