Energy Diplomacy In An Age Of Global Uncertainty – OpEd

The current instability in the Middle East has again demonstrated the extent to which the modern world is interconnected especially in the energy security context. The most recent escalation in the Middle East has torn apart key supply chains loading the world markets with great pressure. Strait of Hormuz being an important passageway to almost a fifth of all the oil and gas in the world, a disruption in this passageway has a ripple effect that is felt well beyond the region. The role of strategic diplomacy, the international cooperation and the strong policymaking has never been as crucial in this demanding setting.

In recent talks between Pakistan and France on energy cooperation, the need to adopt collaborative strategies on world issues is emphasized. The involvement is indicative of a greater fact that energy security has ceased being a matter of national interest and has become an international responsibility. Partnerships, dialogue and mutual trust are some of the factors that countries need to depend more on, especially during the crisis period.
