Andy Burnham’s energetic first week as UK Prime Minister has created a noticeable mood boost for Labour, with popular early announcements (bus fare cap, VAT cut on electricity, ending rough sleeping) and a more regionally diverse Cabinet, helping reverse recent polling declines.
Key challenges remain largely unaddressed: limited fiscal room for manoeuvre on the economy, tough decisions on welfare and taxes, and the need for clearer funding details by the time Parliament returns in September.
