TAIT: Remembering longtime Edmonton radio host Bruce Bowie, after his 2025 death
Bruce Bowie took his headphones off as the song, on vinyl, started its decent and took a long sip of his beer. This, I told myself, was my chance.
As an avid 630 CHED listener – especially Bruce’s noon to 3 p.m. show – I heard him mention on the radio that he was from Saskatchewan.
I wanted to know what part.
So there I was: two feet away from Bruce at the Crestwood Community Hall where he was spinning records at a dance.
I went up to him. Shook hands. And then, yelling over the music, asked him what part of Saskatchewan he was from.
He smiled that wonderful warm smile.
“I’m fine,” he replied.
“How are you?”
That ignited a special friendship of almost half a century.
News of his passing has caused many to pause and reflect on the love of his Lord Jesus Christ, the family man, the runner, the talented broadcaster who had a 47-year career and that laugh that not only lit up a room, but made it........
