Overpass confrontation latest in flag rows in county

Flags hung from an overpass on the A146 outside Gillingham, near Beccles, were taken down by an unknown person at around 5pm on Wednesday.

Daniel and Claire Burlingham, from Beccles, say they were passing by when they saw the flags being "ripped down" and decided to confront the person.

After a short shouting match, the woman left the area, leaving the flags in an "unsafe pile on the floor", they say.

"The flags could have blown over and hit a car", said Mrs Burlingham.

The self-branded "patriotic couple" believe the flags are a "point of pride for the area" and "everyone should be able to fly their flags without fearing they might be ripped down".........
