Inspirational Janet celebrates 100 years of life and laughter

Janet Jones (née Mack) was born in Calthorpe in 1925, and was one of five children of Richard and Gladys Mack.

Aged seven, her family moved to Hempstead Hall, where farming became central to their lives—a tradition that continues today.

Her younger years were marked by resilience and wartime challenges.

Janet attended Holt School then, during World War II, at 14 years volunteered as a Land Girl.

Although under the required age of 17, she completed a month’s training at Moulton Agricultural College in Northampton.

She vividly remembered wartime experiences, including the day a German aircraft strafed the area near Hempstead Hall—a moment........
