Dean Williams, 41, is alleged to have swung the hammer while threatening the driver before jumping into his van and driving off.

A mobile phone inside the stolen car was later tracked using a location app to the home address of the father-of-four.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told police discovered a fire in the garden that included clothing and the keys to the stolen vehicle.
