Company plans to axe sugar factory employing 104 workers

The company will cease beet processing at its Cantley site from the end of February 2027, as part of a proposal intended to improve efficiency, restore competitiveness and support the long-term future of the UK sugar industry.

Operations will be consolidated at its three remaining factories in Bury St Edmunds, Newark and Wissington.

All 104 Cantley employees will be affected by the proposal.

A British Sugar spokeswoman said: "We will now begin discussions on our proposal with Unite, our recognised Union, and other employee representatives."
