Beccles Town Council has "strongly" objected to a developer's bid to tear down the building on Gosford Road, which most recently housed a carpet warehouse.

The developers claim the structure is "beyond economic repair" and that pulling it down as a "necessary course of action".

Planning documents to East Suffolk Council suggested that the site could be redeveloped to create affordable housing or accommodation for key workers.

But the town council has raised concerns about the bid.
