Flight FR3131 was heading to Paphos International Airport in Cyprus but was rerouted to Athens on Monday, March 2, after an unidentified drone entered restricted airspace.

The aircraft took off from Stansted at 09:08 UTC and landed safely in Athens at 12:45 UTC.

It is about 37 miles from RAF Akrotiri, which was hit by an unmanned drone overnight.

Paphos International Airport has since reopened, but passengers are being warned to expect ongoing delays and possible cancellations.

The UK Government updated its travel advice on March 2, warning British travellers of possible disruption in the region.

The FCDO said on the government website: "On 2 March 2026, the Sovereign Base Areas Administration confirmed a suspected drone impact at RAF Akrotiri.

"British nationals in the Sovereign Base Areas should follow instructions from the Sovereign Base Areas Administration British Bases Cyprus Facebook.

"British nationals in the Republic of Cyprus should follow any instructions from Cypriot local authorities."

The FCDO also pointed to a wider risk of instability in the area.

It said: "There is a heightened risk of regional tension.

"Escalation could lead to travel disruption and other unanticipated impacts.

"British nationals should take sensible precautions, considering their own individual circumstances."

Travellers are advised to stay informed by monitoring media, signing up for FCDO email alerts, and following instructions from local authorities.

Easyjet have also suspended all flights to Cyprus.

Ryanair has been approached for comment regarding the diversion of flight FR3131.
