The clampdown comes after East Suffolk Council had consulted on proposed changes to the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that is currently in place for the Harbour ward in Lowestoft.

With the PSPO currently prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in specific areas in the Harbour ward, the council ran a consultation between October and November that earmarks "a number of variations".
