Brave bomb disposal heroes who lost their lives on coast remembered
And now the courage, bravery and dedication shown by Royal Engineers bomb disposal units have been commemorated with a memorial installed in their honour.

The new memorial plaque commemorates four men who died carrying out bomb disposal operations in Lowestoft during the Second World War.
The seaside town and the surrounding villages felt the full force of more than 105 air raids from the German Luftwaffe between 1940 and 1944.

During these attacks almost 1,000 HE (High Explosive) bombs were dropped, along with tens of thousands of incendiary bombs.

With 100 of the HE bombs failing to explode, the task of dealing with these unexploded bombs fell mainly to the Royal Engineers bomb disposal squads.

Now the courage shown by these men has been marked - with the unveiling of a special memorial.
