Bid for BT Street Hub by town's Wetherspoons pub sparks concerns

Plans have been lodged that could see an old phone box in Lowestoft town centre replaced with a "modern, digital kiosk" that provides a range of free services.

It would include ultrafast Wi-Fi, free UK phone calls, device charging and a touch-screen tablet for local information.

If approved it would be the first Street Hub unit to be installed in Lowestoft.

Two schemes - centring around applications for Illuminated Advertisement Consent and full planning permission - propose removing a BT payphone kiosk on the pavement at Station Square and installing a BT Street Hub, complete with double-sided digital 75-inch LCD display screens, in its place.
