Alan Tedder died after coming off the bike between Potter Heigham, where he had been for a drink, and his home in Ludham.

He had bought the Revi vehicle on Facebook Marketplace around six months before the tragedy and did not know that its engine size meant it could not be classified as an electrically-assisted bicycle.

While e-bikes have a maximum speed of 15mph, Mr Tedder's had been modified and was able to reach higher speeds.

This meant the 62-year-old, who owned a building firm, was subject to drink-driving laws and should have been wearing a crash helmet when he fell into the path of a vehicle following behind him.

An inquest into his death heard concerns that people buying powered two-wheelers through online marketplaces may not realise they are not legally considered bicycles and are covered by laws that do not apply to other electrically-assisted bicycles.

Mr Tedder, who was known as 'Albie', died in an accident on May 31, 2025 on the A1062 after a visit to the Falgate Inn, in Potter Heigham.

Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard it was a sunny Saturday afternoon and the 62-year-old had drunk around three pints of Stella Artois with friends before setting off home, a little over a mile and a half away.

Paul Brown, who met him there, said; “He was a slow drinker. He had about three pints of Stella."

They left the pub together shortly after 6pm, setting off in different directions.
