Jewellery designer struggled after partner she 'idolised' died beside her, court told

Emma Layton, of Olivet Way, Fakenham, had been left heartbroken following the passing of her partner of 16 years in February 2024.

Norfolk Coroner's Court heard the 61-year-old had struggled with the loss of both their home and jewellery business afterwards.

Ms Layton was found unresponsive at her home on October 16 after relatives became concerned when she stopped answering calls.

Her sister, Sarah Johnson, attended the property intending to report her missing but discovered her body and contacted police.

Empty alcohol bottles and blister packets with tablets missing were discovered near her bed, although some medication remained unconsumed.

In a statement read to the court, Ms Johnson described her sister as “an incredibly caring person” who had spent much of her life looking after others.
