Now, a charity is hoping to recruit volunteers to help make the process of attending an inquest more manageable.

The Coroners’ Courts Support Service, an independent charity, is looking for compassionate people with good interpersonal skills who enjoy meeting others and can offer a reassuring presence to those facing one of the most difficult days of their lives.

The service provides trained volunteers who offer emotional support and practical guidance to families, friends and witnesses attending inquests at Norfolk Coroner's Court, helping them understand what to expect during often unfamiliar and distressing proceedings.

An inquest can be a traumatic experience for anyone involved.

For many people, it is the first time they have stepped inside a courtroom while reliving the circumstances surrounding the death of a loved one.

The charity recognises that court can feel intimidating and bewildering, particularly when grief is combined with a legal process that can seem complex and confusing.

Volunteers explain how the day will unfold, show people around the court, answer questions where they can and provide a listening ear.

They also offer refreshments, including tea and biscuits, and can signpost families........
