Council forced to reconsider 50pc tax raise after heated meeting

Cromer Town Council has been pressured into reconsidering raising its share of council tax by 49pc over the next year.

The possible u-turn was revealed at a public meeting held at Cromer Parish Hall attended by about 200 people.

Such was the feeling in the town over the issue that a long queue formed outside the hall, with people turned away as the venue was full.

The hall had reached its capacity and saw people turned away (Image: Jack Warren, Newsquest) Wednesday night's meeting had been called to give people of the town their say on the proposed rise and also the future of the town council's offices at North Lodge, which could be set for works that would cost at least £260,000.

The meeting resulted in a parish poll being called, allowing people a vote on whether the council should sell North Lodge and move into smaller offices in the town centre, develop a parish plan where people in Cromer are consulted and........
