Reform vows to do 'everything within our power' to stop demolition of vast estate

David Bick, who is expected to lead Reform into a minority administration at County Hall, has laid out his party's stance as the fight over the future of Thetford's Abbey Estate enters a critical new phase.

The Abbey, built in the late 1960s to house families drawn to Thetford during its post-war expansion, has been at the centre of one of Norfolk's most bitter planning rows.

Developer Bromford Flagship LiveWest wants to demolish and rebuild the entire estate - home to around 3,000 people - in a £250m scheme that would take 20 years and replace existing homes with up to 500 new properties.

Flagship argues the estate, which ranks among the most deprived neighbourhoods in England, cannot be saved through piecemeal........
