David Bick addressed a crowd of about 40 outside RAF Barnham on Thursday, in the first joint appearance by the Reform leaders of Norfolk and Suffolk county councils since the plan was announced in June. 

He was joined by Michael Hadwen, his Suffolk counterpart, as rain fell on the crowd and cars beeped their horns as they drove past.

The rally marked the latest in a series of protests that have gathered outside the decommissioned base most weeks throughout the summer.

"We need to ask people who are not here why they are not here," Mr Bick told the event.

"The only way, in my view, that you will stop this sort of encampment being filled up with illegal migrants is through protests, so keep it up and get bigger".

Many of those protesting outside Barnham have been at pains to separate their campaign from the disorder that erupted in Thetford earlier this month, when homes were vandalised and asylum seekers were escorted from properties over three consecutive........
