Police brace for protests as Afghan grooming gang suspects return to court

Officers are preparing a heightened security presence around the courthouse this Friday, where the men will face a hearing at which they are expected to enter a plea.

The Afghans - six aged 20 and one aged 21 - are accused of a total of 40 offences, including 33 counts of rape or conspiracy to rape, against two victims who were aged in their early to mid-teens at the time.

Five of the group - who are all classified as refugees - entered the country on small boats while the other two arrived concealed in vehicles.

They have all been in the country for between three and six years and the alleged offences are said to have occurred between August 2023 and May 2025.

The case has already prompted anger and a protest was held in Norwich last month following the men's........
