Norfolk Constabulary called in officers and riot police from across East Anglia as the force braced itself for the third consecutive night of demonstrations in the Norfolk town.

Lines of officers arrived in riot vans at the Abbey Estate in the early evening, as crowds gathered around a property they believed was housing asylum seekers.

It is one of many sites around the town locals believe are being used by the Home Office as HMOs, after photos were shared online.

Thursday night's events on Chester Way did not escalate to the same physical violence seen during the previous days but once again properties were swarmed.

Officers were called to the address at around 4.45pm after a group began throwing eggs and stones at a home, going on to break the door.

Police say those living inside were then escorted out by officers for their own safety.

A separate group was reported throwing rocks at a property on Anne Boleyn Close, around two miles away, smashing its windows.

Two arrests were made throughout the evening.

One man, in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred, possession of a class C drug and a public order offence, and remains in custody.

A second man, also in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. He has since been released and issued with a conditional caution.

More arrests made on Thursday has brought the total number up to six, as investigations continue.

This included a further arrest made in connection with the female officer bitten during Wednesday's disorder.
