‘Never a waste of money’ - £1.2m grant approved to tackle surge in youth homelessness
Figures from Breckland Council reveal that there has been a near 13pc increase in the number of young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness since 2023.
Council documents show 141 people aged 16 to 24 were homeless or in critical housing need in 2024/25 - up from 125 in 2022/23.
There are 58 young people aged 18 to 25 who currently needing housing across the region.
The alarming rise has led the authority’s Conservative cabinet to agree to give £1.2m to YMCA, a youth housing charity.
