Protected birds ‘illegally removed’ from former gin bar by man on ladder

The kittiwakes were plucked from their nests on the RopeWorks building in Battery Green Road, Lowestoft, on Sunday night (May 10).

Netting was then put up across the front of the former gin bar, which shut in 2019, but birds have still been spotted squeezing in behind it as they try to continue nesting on the site.

The gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which makes it an offence to take kittiwakes or their eggs from nests while they are in use or being built.

Netting has been put up across the building in an attempt to deter the birds from nesting........
