Off the Norfolk coast at Egmere, Tidal Transit operates a fleet of specialised crew transfer vessels (CTVs) that are designed to service offshore wind industry projects.

Offshore wind farms are often located many miles from shore and require robust and specialised operations & maintenance (O&M) fleets to carry out essential maintenance work.

O&M fleet vessels traditionally rely on fossil fuels to run, resulting in very high carbon emissions. To support offshore wind’s decarbonisation goals, Tidal Transit is spearheading a number of electrification initiatives. This includes the world’s first diesel-to-electric CTV retrofit project and the development of onshore and offshore charging solutions.

Tidal Transit’s main CTV electrification project, e-Ginny, outfits old diesel-powered vessels with 100% battery electric power. Doing this significantly reduces the energy consumption and carbon footprint of crew transfer.

The retrofitting of older vessels greatly extends the lifecycle of a vessel and reduces the waste attributed to decommissioning of older vessels.

Transitioning from diesel to battery and hybrid propulsion cuts fuel use by 90%, and in cases such as e-Ginny, operational........
