Man with history of addiction prescribed hundreds of painkillers before overdose

A recent inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court heard how Scott Bush, of Chadwick Square, King's Lynn, died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge on May 31.

His death was because of an accidental overdose of the painkiller co-codamol, which contains both codeine and paracetamol.

The inquest was told that Mr Bush, who had a long history of alcohol misuse and previous issues with codeine dependence, had been prescribed significant quantities of co-codamol by health professionals in the weeks before his death.

Wife Kimberley Bush, who he had been separated from, questioned the court via video-link as to why he had been issued so much of a potentially addictive medication when his past problems with codeine were known.
