Bid to build bungalows reopens old wounds in Broads village

In Catfield, near Stalham, developers want to build up to 10 single storey homes in a field off Lea Road.

But neighbours have spoken of "stress and anguish", the parish council has branded the sewage system "criminally" inadequate and officials are investigating claims of illegal tree felling.

The scheme is facing eight formal objections from locals and authorities, with concerns focused on flooding, traffic, wildlife loss and the future of the road's retirement community.

The application, now under revised plans, is being considered by North Norfolk District Council (NNDC).

It follows a previously withdrawn bid for 18 houses, which had faced similar opposition from the community.

'20 years of disruption'

One resident complained of "20 years of disruption to the residents in Lea Road, with planning proposals going in and being rejected on and off".

"Just when you think it is cancelled it starts again. This causes severe stress and anguish to us all.

"Planning proposals need to stop completely to give us........
