Rare steam engines and tractors in 'once-in-a-lifetime' £1m vintage machine sale

Auctioneers at Cheffins said the event at the firm's saleground in Sutton, near Ely, on October 17-18, is set to be "a major event for collectors and enthusiasts".

The sale is expected to raise around £1m as more than 2,000 lots go under the hammer, including more than 150 rare vintage and classic tractors, 40 vintage motorbikes and 30 classic cars and commercial vehicles.

.The lot with the highest estimate is an 1899 Burrell "Devonshire" steam engine, which is expected to sell for between £200,000 and £250,000.

Finished in authentic Burrell paint, this "very original example" was imported from Australia in 2007 and is being sold by a Norfolk-based collector, said auctioneers.

Meanwhile a 1915 Foden steam wagon, which has appeared at hundreds of rallies........
