Garage owner forced to move business to make way for new homes

Jim Wheals, who runs J & I Motor Engineers in King's Lynn says he will have to move out of his current premises on South Lynn Plain, off Valingers Road by the end of the year.

Freebridge Community Housing, which bought the site from Mr Wheals's former landlord six years ago, has applied to demolish the workshop, showroom and other buildings on the site to make way for 19 new rented homes.

Mr Wheals, who will celebrate his 75th birthday in January, said: "I've come to an agreement reluctantly with them. I've signed a contract to get out by the end of December.

"I didn't want to move because it will cause me great upheaval. I've found somewhere else to go but it's considerably smaller and doesn't have the parking."

Freebridge said in a planning statement it was "working constructively" with Mr Wheals to retain his business in the local........
