From a cricket ground and scout hut, it runs past an Edwardian school, a medieval church and a Grade II*-listed rectory, designed by one of Britain's greatest architects.

It then continues past a war memorial and an old red phone box, passing pretty cottages and traditional farm buildings and a thatched village hall, as it runs alongside a drainage stream, separated from it by white railings.

But the splendour of Saxlingham Nethergate's main thoroughfare seems about to change... and not for the better.

The street is earmarked to become a major transport route for the company wanting to build one of Britain's biggest solar farms on the surrounding countryside.

The firm has revealed it plans to bring in tonnes of heavy machinery and parts it needs for the 2,718-acre array along the road over the course of its two-year construction.

To do so, it needs to widen the 4.5m-wide street through the village to allow it to accommodate the abnormally wide loads which could be up to 5.5m wide.
