Students take on offshore wind industry challenges

Renewable energy firm Ørsted asked students at University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN) to find workable solutions to difficult scenarios faced daily by teams working on offshore wind farms in the UK.

Ørsted is building the Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm 120 km off the coast of Norfolk.

A total of 90 Year 12 students were given the choice of three challenges to solve, working in teams of three to five people.

The logistics challenge focused on improving the safety and efficiency of offshore wind farm operations and maintenance in the UK.

An environmental challenge dealt with mess caused by algae, barnacles or seabird poo on offshore turbine ladders, which can create safety risks.
