Scrapping peak rail fares for good will be vote winner for Anas Sarwar
Anas Sarwar’s commitment to scrap peak rail fares if he becomes the next First Minister is a welcome move.
Peak rail fares are a tax on workers and punish people for travelling to their jobs. All that does is make people use their cars instead of taking the train.
This results in clogged up roads and does no good for the environment. It even discourages people from travelling to the office, making more folk work from home.
The Record was happy when the SNP Government announced its pilot about scrapping peak rail fares. It allowed current train users to keep more of their cash and encouraged those who would usually drive to take public transport.
There were so many positives about the pilot, which made it even more shocking when the SNP said they would not make it permanent. Bringing back inflated peak fares was the........
