Phones should be banned in schools to combat alarming trend of filming violence

Parents are rightly alarmed about an alarming trend for filming school violence – then posting it on the internet for “likes”.

That is why Anas Sarwar is right to tell voters he will ban mobile phones in schools if he become first minister. This move would help young people concentrate on what they should be doing in school – learning.

The Record’s Our Kids... Our Future campaign has been leading the way on this issue – calling for internet giants to crack down on content featuring attacks on young people. The Scottish Labour leader mentioned one such attack on a teenager at a school in Fife. The girl was dragged off her chair in class, punched and kicked in the head.

Not only has this girl had to endure the horrific ordeal of the attack, but she has had to relive it over and over again because the clip was posted on social media. This is unacceptable and no child should........
