Coventry city centre 'a ghost town' at night as plans revealed to improve safety
Coventry locals are steering clear of the city centre due to fears over their safety. A significant number of residents have confessed to the council that they avoid the area at night as they "don't feel safe."
The same apprehension also keeps many away during daylight hours, as revealed by a council crime survey conducted last year. Coventry Live readers are unsurprised at the results.
A new initiative aimed at curbing anti-social behaviour and ensuring a "safe" night out in the centre could be given the green light next week. This forms part of a broader joint strategy by the council and police to cut down on crime and enhance the community's sense of safety.
