'Leave the trees alone!' say protestors as cycle lane destruction begins
Work commenced this week on the contentious Coventry cycle lane, resulting in the felling of 26 street trees along Clifford Bridge Road. Campaigners reported several trees being chopped down this morning amidst protests from local residents over the proposed two-way cycle track, citing loss of trees and safety issues. Coventry Live readers are questioning the need for another cycle lane.
Residents took to the streets as the tree-felling work went ahead, with some holding protest signs against the cycleway plans.
Campaigner Andrew Bullock said: "I don't agree that Clifford Bridge Road is a suitable place to put a cycleway. The council are very determined that a cycleway should go here........
