Newcastle United have won the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

I can’t believe I’m typing those words, and can assure readers that I didn’t pre-plan this editorial. We’d never tempt fate with something so important for the city and for all of us at the Chronicle, which has been reporting on Newcastle United since its very first game. So, I’m writing this at 8pm on Sunday night, and still shaking.

The narrative has finally changed - Newcastle United DO win trophies, and we are so very proud of them. We can be certain that the warmest welcome home awaits Eddie Howe’s band of heroes in our proud city. What a moment for fans of all ages - we hope you enjoy the buzz of this glorious moment in our history.
