Exploring Summerland trails

For a small centre of only 12,000, the District of Summerland is chock full of unique trails while a giant keeps a watchful eye.

From Giant's Head Mountain Park and Fur Brigade Trail to the KVR Trail and a steam railway, Summerland has ancient history, recreated history and modern history.

As you approach the southeast face of Giant’s Head Mountain, one of Summerland’s most familiar landmarks, you’ll see a man’s profile surveying the community that has made him a focal point for more than 100 years.

The Giant’s Head, the core of an ancient volcano carved by glaciers, even appears on the municipality’s coat of arms accompanied by the motto, “A Giant in Stature.”

To celebrate Canada’s Centennial in 1967, a community effort created Giant’s Head Mountain Park, touted as “one of Canada’s most imaginative centennial projects.”

Access is from an entrance gate on Giant's Head Road at Milne Road. You can park there and start your hike, cycle, or on designated days, drive up to the parking and picnic area with washrooms, then hike one kilometre to the........
