Exploring RDOS trails

The South Okanagan-Similkameen not only has three unique sections of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail but it has been selected as a pilot area for a province-wide cycling tourism signage and marketing strategy.

Known as the South Okanagan-Similkameen Cycling Network, the pilot is intended to lead the way for other cycling networks throughout the province.

Consistent way-finding route signage will identify cycling routes and road shoulder maintenance and sweeping on key routes will be doubled for greater safety.

The network website has visual tours of popular road cycling routes, mountain bike trails, KVR Trail sections and a regional map showing their locations, plus photos of highlights like the McCulloch, Okanagan Falls and Trout Creek trestles. See it here.

Another key tool is a huge printed map—the South Okanagan-Similkameen Cycling Guide, a collaborative effort by local governments, tourism organizations and the cycling community in 2015, and available at local tourism offices. The other side has street maps for the major centres.
