Winter isn't a season of discontent, it's a time for quiet reflection

This Thursday marks the very depths of the frosty months, dropping humanity right into the middle of the seasonal chill. Mid-year often feels like a wearyingly deep pit of ugh. Skies turn grey, mornings bite with an icy crispness, and the dreaded power bill lurks menacingly at the end of the quarter.

People rush from heated cars to heated homes, grumbling constantly about the temperature. Yet, humanity should never wish this time away. For those fortunate enough to reside in areas where the four seasons unfold in all their distinct glory, this remains a truly special time of the year.

Admittedly, the trees stand bare against the pale sky, and vibrant flowers seem few and far between. The world looks asleep. However, magic stirs just beneath the frost. The daffodils, the jonquils and the hyacinths already poke their brave green shoots up through the hardened soil. Soon, they will explode into a radiant mass of cheerful blooms.

Blossom day hovers not too far on the horizon, promising a spectacular display of life. Furthermore, Australia's iconic wattles are starting to prepare their buds. Very shortly, they will dust the sweeping landscape with a breathtaking carpet of gold, brightening even the gloomiest of afternoons.

Winter offers unique delights for every temperament. Enthusiastic runners and eager cyclists can take full advantage of the cooler weather, pushing their physical limits without the punishing glare of the brutal summer sun constantly beating down upon........
