'Accident waiting to happen' fear as busy road set to get cycle upgrades
Fears have been voiced that proposed upgrades to cycling and walking routes along Madingley Road in Cambridge could create an "accident waiting to happen". Councillor Heather Williams has raised concerns about the safety of introducing 'Copenhagen crossings' and floating bus stops along the road, arguing that unfamiliar crossings could pose a danger to cyclists.
Cambridgeshire Live readers have pointed out that if motorists can't deal with the road markings then that raises questions about their driving abilities. However, Peter Blake, interim director of the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP), said designs for planned upgrades will undergo a road safety assessment.
