Soda Stereo sparks frenzy with 30-date arena tour
In a plot twist somehow similar to ABBA’s record-breaking hologram show Voyage in London, legendary Argentine pop rock band Soda Stereo will perform live with a new show called Ecos (Echoes). Drummer Charly Alberti and bassist Zeta Bosio will revisit their greatest hits alongside an innovative video projection of singer and guitarist Gustavo Cerati, who died in 2014.
The first dates were announced late September 2025 and fans went wild: tickets evaporated in minutes, new shows were soon added, the sold-out sign was hung once again, more concerts were announced, and so on.
In Buenos Aires, Soda Stereo will perform a grand total of 10 shows at the 15,000 seat Movistar Arena on March 21. Tickets are only available for concerts on August 14-15.
The craze spread throughout Latin America, where Soda was a pioneer in making Spanish-speaking rock popular since their landmark tours in the mid-Eighties. Fans rapidly bought all tickets for three concerts at Santiago de Chile and another one was added.
Three shows in Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes and Guadalajara’s Auditorio Telmex also sold-out fast, and more dates were announced at both venues, plus two shows in Monterrey.
The tour includes Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Spain, ending September 24, although additional dates or a second leg are not ruled out.
The iconic frontman of Soda Stereo, Cerati died on September 4, 2014, at age 55 after spending more than four years in a coma caused by a stroke he suffered in 2010. The medical emergency occurred shortly after he finished a concert in Caracas, Venezuela, during the final leg of his solo tour for the album Fuerza Natural.
Die-hard admirers that saw Soda live in their prime grumble in social media about the absence of Cerati, but promoters mention the fact that most tickets were bought by young fans who never saw the band on stage and are thrilled to do so for the first time.
Past and present reunions
This is not the first time that Soda Stereo revives since its Last Concert tour in 1997. A record-breaking reunion with the original three members took place ten years later, with 22 concerts throughout the continent to a grand total of one million tickets sold.
The following official show with Soda Stereo’s songs was Cirque du Soleil’s Séptimo día – No descansaré (On the Seventh Day I Won’t Rest) in 2017, with musical supervision by both Bosio and Alberti. Box office was sweet: 73 dates in Buenos Aires’ Luna Park arena, plus 15 more cities in 10 countries.
Finally, the band made a live tour in 2020 called Gracias totales (Total Thanks), with guest singers taking vocal chores and four additional musicians. The original schedule was cancelled after only four concerts due to Covid-lockdown, and most shows were reprogrammed for 2022.
Now comes Ecos, where the main concept is no guests, no new singers, and no new guitarists. Charly and Zeta will be present, playing live on stage, and Gustavo will accompany them thanks to the latest available video technology.
His voice and guitar playing will be recordings from his unforgettable 2007 performances.
“Imagine a place where the unreal becomes real, where we are transported to dreamlike moments and wishes come true, allowing us to experience the most anticipated reunion thanks to technology,” read the only statement from the band.
“The band that never left, the one that marked the history of Spanish-language rock and united entire generations through its songs, is back, stronger than ever.”
