I have money, but I’m still anxious about it. I overthink small purchases. I worry about being taken advantage of. I talk myself out of purchases I know I can afford, and I worry that a major event – like a crash or a scam – will wipe me out. I know the answer isn’t “more money” because I have money, and I’m still anxious. How do I get over this?
You’re not alone. I’ve seen this at every level – even in my clients who have millions in assets. You’re right in thinking that “more money” probably isn’t the answer. There isn’t a specific dollar figure that will magically cure your financial anxiety.
This can be difficult to grasp because the default assumption tends to be “more money” will fix all your financial anxiety. Certainly, it can make specific anxieties go away. But what many people find is – one anxiety evaporates, but there’s another around the corner.
One day, you’re anxious about paying the bills. Then, you get some money, and feel some temporary relief. But now, you’re worried about being able to afford a property. So, you work hard, get a property, and now you’re worried about paying the mortgage.
