'Paying more and getting less' anger as Brummies face 7.5% council tax hike
As the Birmingham budget is finally unveiled, residents and organisations across the city are now able to see the full extent of how the city council's financial crisis will impact them. For the second consecutive year, every aspect of city life will be affected as the council implements cuts and a council tax increase in its efforts to balance its finances. Birmingham Live readers are angry and frustrated at being asked to pay more yet again.
Although the city council requested permission to raise council tax by 9.99%, the Government denied this request.
Earlier this week, the outline of a £148.4 million cuts package was revealed. Council taxes are set to rise by 7.5%, and the sale of council properties and land will also be accelerated, with a target of selling £1 billion worth of assets by the end of the year.
