They don’t like you
Democrats have two huge problems: 1. They don't much like the voters; and 2. the voters have begun to notice and are returning the favor.
The re-election of Donald Trump confirmed Democrats' worst assumptions regarding their fellow citizens. In their eyes, only a depraved electorate could have voted in such a depraved character (twice, to boot).
Few Democrats seem willing to consider that it wasn't so much the voters voting for Trump as the voters voting against them.
As Kamala Harris' new book nicely if obliviously illustrates, Democrats are simply incapable of giving Americans the benefit of the doubt. This is because the foundational assumption of the political left is that America is and always has been a racist, sexist, and bigoted place filled with racist, sexist, and bigoted people (voters).
This is an inescapable assumption of identity politics: You cannot stress race and gender as the basis of identity without also embracing the idea that people with certain identities will be forever oppressed (minorities) and those with other identities (white people) forever their oppressors.
Identity politics must always be accompanied by depictions of Americans as racist and sexist and homophobic because it would make no sense otherwise. Unsurprisingly, this message can be a rather tough sell with that........
